W18 Grillage

New Rapid Deployment Grillage from FLI Structures

FLI Structures, leaders in the design, manufacture of screw-pile foundations, are pleased to announce that the latest steel grillage the “W18” frame and screw pile solution has been successfully installed to support 30M lattice tower for Network Rail’s GSMr project.

The GSMr project is a multi-billion pound project to provide a national system of secure train-driver to signaller communications for the safe running and improved performance of the railways.  The network requires the construction of 2000 radio masts across the UK.

FLI Structures are providing the Masts and the RDS foundations to the project.  The W18 steel grillage allows Network Rail’s contractors to deploy lattice towers from 10M to 30M in height on foundations, quicker and more efficiently compared with sites using conventional concrete foundations.  Instead of excavating and pouring wet concrete, site contractors are able to screw the piles into the ground with 360 Excavator and a FLI owned torque motor.  Once the steel grillage interface is landed onto the piles, mast structures can be installed immediately into place, enabling sites to be completed in 2 days, rather than 4 weeks compared with conventional foundation methods.

FLI are successfully designing helical pile solutions for a vast array of structures widely used by both Network Rail and Highways Agency, including portal gantries, cantilever gantries, signs, platforms, OLE masts, CCTV structures, etc.  Tony Parker, Sales Manager at FLI comments “Our success is based on understanding and solving site problems efficiently, with safe solutions in mind for our installers.  With a strong focus on innovation, we are able to supply foundation solutions to support for a wide range of structures in both Railway & Highways markets.
