Nuclear Steelwork Fabricator
FLI is a Fit 4 Nuclear certified steelwork fabricator, approved to BS EN 1090, Execution Class 4. Experienced with steelwork packages on Nuclear New Build projects, we support rollout programmes that require consistent, repeatable steel components manufactured at volume. We also produce bespoke secondary steelwork for walkways, platforms, access ramps, ladders and stairs.
Scope of Work
FLI’s scope on nuclear sites has included platforms, door frames, brackets and towers, demonstrating the depth of FLI’s experience. This has followed on from extensive work over decades in energy, telecoms, aviation, rail, defence and highways markets, where FLI has developed excellent safety and quality standards. These projects have included call-off contracts for electrification structures or safety critical communications towers in rail, to radar towers in defence.

Capabilities and Location
FLI has excellent in-house facilities including two workshops totalling 6000sqm, offices for project management, design and detailing offices plus a packing, despatch and a storage facility, all to the south of Gloucester, less than an hour from the Hinkley site.
FLI operates automated fabrication systems, including a saw and beam line, an angle line, a tube line and a plate line as well as presses up to 300T and a 6 axis welding robot and rotator system.
FLI’s welders are qualified to BS EN 9606-1 2017. Processes include Submerged Arc, MIG,MMA and stud welding. All procedures are to BS EN ISO 15614-1 2019 and certified up to Execution Class 4.
FLI has been engineering and fabricating steel structures for over 70 years. The company is financially stable with no borrowings and employs highly skilled, experienced and long serving staff. With no borrowings and appropriate working capital, FLI is free to concentrate on delivering a high quality product and an excellent project management service, as required by a nuclear site.
