Telecom Towers, monopoles & tower foundations.

FLI Structures has been designing, manufacturing and installing telecom towers and telecom structures for 70 years. From its factory in Gloucester, towers, masts and monopoles have been produced for every generation of mobile network. Today, FLI’s latest low-profile telecom towers form a key part of 5G networks across the UK, ranging from rooftop stub towers in city centres to high-capacity towers in remote and mountainous locations.

Lattice Telecom Towers

Lattice towers typically provide a more flexible solution than monopoles, allowing additional antenna capacity, greater flexibility in feeder installation and improved access to telecoms equipment. They are also easier to extend to accommodate future antennas or additional users.

FLI Structures manufactures a complete range of lattice telecom towers, from slender single-user configurations to large multi-user switch structures. With 70 years of lattice tower production experience and the acquisition of Alan Dick Towers and Masts, FLI offers the UK’s most extensive range of off-the-shelf telecom tower designs, helping to reduce development time and cost.

Monopole Telecom Structures

FLI Structures provides a full range of monopoles as an alternative to lattice towers for urban and semi-urban environments. Monopoles are typically available up to 30 metres in height and can be designed to support between one and four users or antenna sets. As the slimmest form of telecom structure, dual-, three- and four-user monopoles can be shared between operators to help address planning constraints.

In addition to complete 5G installations, FLI can upgrade existing monopoles to accommodate 5G loading through the installation of new surmounted headframes.

Telecoms Trees

For sites with planning constraints or specific aesthetic requirements, FLI Structures has designed a range of telecom masts disguised as artificial trees.

These telecom structures have been installed for all major mobile networks at locations worldwide and are commonly used in sensitive environments such as Snowdonia and Windsor Great Park.

Headframes for Telecom Towers

Headframe design is continually evolving to meet the requirements of new equipment. FLI Structures works closely with installers and all major mobile networks through each iteration, delivering design trials, training installations and defined upgrade paths. FLI’s headframes are engineered to integrate seamlessly with a wide range of telecom towers and telecom structures.

Foundations for Telecom Towers & Structures

FLI Structures is a major manufacturer of large-diameter screw piles (also known as helical piles), with the engineering expertise to deliver foundation solutions for the most challenging site conditions. When combined with FLI’s grillage systems, screw piles form rapid-deployment foundations that provide a cost-effective alternative where ground conditions are unsuitable for mass concrete.

These solutions can also replace existing concrete foundations with minimal disruption during site upgrades. All foundation systems are fully compatible with FLI’s telecom towers and telecom structures.

Why Use Screw Piles

Extending the Life of Ageing Telecom Towers

Many existing tower networks include structurally sound towers that are compromised by corrosion at the connection to their concrete foundations.

FLI Structures’ ButterFLI product range provides simple, low-cost solutions to extend network service life. These bypass systems bridge corrosion at the top of the concrete foundation, preventing tower collapse and restoring safety and performance to ageing telecom towers.
