Lattice tower ATS 1301 from FLI Structures

Building the UK’s Infrastructure as experts in Engineered Steel Structures and Screw Pile Foundations

FLI Structures designs, fabricates and installs fully engineered steel structures, screw piles (also known as a helical piles) and steel grillage foundation systems for the UK’s critical infrastructure. Its capability is built on more than 70 years of experience and a complete in-house team that includes chartered engineers, a specialist drawing office, and fully qualified steel welders and fabricators operating from modern facilities across two sites in Gloucester. This integrated approach provides full control of structural design, analysis, detailing, fabrication and installation.

FLI designs and manufactures a wide range of steel structures, including lattice towers, guyed masts, monopoles, signal gantries, railway platforms, bridges and bespoke support systems. Its telecoms towers support every major mobile network operator, alongside a broad range of national infrastructure clients across the telecoms, rail, highways, energy, radar, bridges and water sectors. FLI also delivers tower strengthening solutions to extend the service life and capacity of existing steel towers and assets.

All structural steelwork and screw pile and steel grillage foundations are delivered to the highest standards of quality, accuracy and safety. Fabrication is carried out to Execution Class 4, supported by rigorous processes recognised through RoSPA Gold Awards and Fit for Nuclear (F4N) accreditation.

Case Studies

FLI Structures has delivered thousands of UK infrastructure projects using engineered steel and screw pile (also known as helical pile) foundations. Explore recent projects across telecoms, rail, highways, and energy.

Low-Carbon Foundations for a Greener Future

FLI’s screw pile foundations provide immediate load capacity without excavation or curing delays, delivering up to a 64% reduction in CO₂ compared with traditional concrete.

FLIs screw pile systems are fully recyclable, reusable, and ideal for projects requiring minimal ground impact and faster installation times.

Sustainability is built into every stage of the process, from material selection and design efficiency to reduced vehicle movements and full end-of-life recovery.

Standard Products

FLI Structures has a wide range of standard product designs that are already proven across all infrastructure sectors.

This is particularly evident within the telecoms sector, where FLI’s 70-year history was strengthened through the acquisition of Alan Dick Towers and Masts. As a result, FLI holds the master designs for more than half of the towers and masts installed across the UK.

With this extensive design library, FLI can provide off-the-shelf solutions for the majority of new build and upgrade projects, helping to reduce programme times and overall project costs.

Models and drawings for standard rail and telecoms products can be downloaded from the Resources pages.

Bespoke Designs

FLI’s greatest strength lies in its engineering design capability. The in-house engineering and drawing office teams are co-located with the fabrication facility, as well as the project management and installation teams.

This integrated structure enables FLI’s engineers to deliver bespoke designs tailored to specific client requirements, while also designing for manufacturing efficiency, logistics and safe, effective installation.
